The 380-seat St. Mary Magdalene is an unlikely home to one of only three known Vatican-approved replicas of La Pietá to be permanently installed in a U.S. church. The original, created between 1498 and 1500, is in St. Peter’s Basilica in the Vatican and is considered one of the masterpieces of Renaissance sculpture.
